Midweek Motivation

1) Be mindful of the stories we tell ourselves - using voice memos

On Monday, we talked about reshaping the running narrative in our heads to enable us to lead happier lives. We advised ways of doing this through journaling.

To take this one step further we have a small challenge for you: Record a voice memo in the morning. Ask yourself the same questions as if you were journaling;

  • What do you want your day to look like?

  • How will your interactions go?

  • Are you worrying about anything?

This unique twist on journaling can offer another layer of insight by capturing the tone and emotion in your voice. Later in the day, replay the recording and ask yourself, "Is that me being my best friend or my worst critic?", “What emotions do I hear - joy, sadness, or something else?” Re-record and reframe any negative narratives just as you would on paper. Try smiling when you talk, notice if this changes how you sound.

This shift in medium can sometimes make all the difference, enabling us to see our stories in a different light. It also gives us insight into how we may be presenting ourselves to others.

2) Posture is important - sticky notes are your best friend

On Monday, we discussed how improving posture isn’t only about physical health - it significantly influences our mental and emotional state too.

An enjoyable way to keep yourself aware of your posture is to use sticky notes. Place them around your workspace or home with a simple prompt: “Posture Check!” and add a little drawing, if you feel like it, something that makes you smile.

This method maintains awareness without feeling like a chore, and over time it can help develop a natural habit of checking and correcting your posture.

Something Interesting

This week we’ve been testing the "5-4-3-2-1" Grounding Technique.

It’s a simple technique that aids in calming the mind and bringing you back to the present moment. To practice this technique identify the following:

  • 5 things you can see

  • 4 things you can touch

  • 3 things you can hear

  • 2 things you can smell

  • 1 thing you can taste

By consciously moving your attention from one thing to the next it centers your thoughts and helps alleviate anxiety. Practicing this is also a great time to check in on your posture.

Thanks for reading!

With gratitude,
