In letting go, you find freedom

“In letting go, you find freedom”

Happy Sunday, everyone. Welcome to MindfulMornings.

Now, on to the newsletter. Here are 2 quotes, 2 tips, and 1 question to help with this week’s mornings.

2 Quotes

  • "Be content with what you have; rejoice in the way things are. When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you." - Lao Tzu

  • "The best way to find out what we really need is to get rid of what we don’t." - Marie Kondo

2 Tips

  • Mindful Consumption

How: Try to consume and use only what you need this week. A good place to start is with what you eat. The Japanese practice of ‘Hara Hachi Bu’ means ‘stop eating when 80% full’. It is a fantastic way to practice mindful consumption. Follow these steps to apply Hara Hachi Bu:

    • Start by gradually eating smaller portions (it takes around 15 to 20 meals to adjust).

    • Serve food on a smaller plate to give the illusion of a larger meal.

    • Eat slowly and enjoy your food. Pay close attention to the flavors and sensations.

More information on Hara Hachi Bu and a Japanese morning routine can be found here: 11 Step - Unique Guide to a Japanese Morning Routine.

Why: Overconsumption is common in our society, generating a lot of waste and excess. Following Hara Hachi Bu helps us avoid this whilst also improving digestion, helping us maintain a healthy weight, and reducing acid reflux and other digestive issues. It is great for your health!

  • Declutter your space

How: Spend 10 minutes each morning organizing your space. Start with your bedroom. Make the bed when you get up and put away any clothes before moving to the rest of the house. If you have a lot of clutter, start small. Focus on the bedroom, and resolve to keep that one space clutter-free this week.

If you want to take this further, Marie Kondo is a professional organizer, famous for her unique approach to decluttering. Her method places great importance on being mindful, introspective and forward-looking. You can learn more about her approach and get motivation to help you declutter here: About the KonMari Method

Why: Valuing and respecting what you already own creates a sense of contentment for what you have. A clutter-free space can also help us keep a clutter-free mind and be at peace in our homes.

1 Question

  • How can you shift your focus from what you lack to what you have?

Thanks for reading! We hope you enjoy your week.
