Midweek Motivation
Tip 1: Nostalgic Cooking Connections
(Sunday’s tip: 10-Minute Nostalgia Boost: Start Your Day with Happy Memories)
Cooking meals from our past can be a wonderful way to reconnect with cherished memories and share them with loved ones. This activity combines the joy of nostalgia with the warmth of social interaction and the comfort of familiar foods.
Here's a simple way to bring this practice into your life:
1. Think of a dish with special meaning - perhaps your grandmother's apple pie or the pasta you and your partner enjoyed on your first date.
2. Plan a small gathering where each person brings a dish that's significant to them.
3. As you enjoy the meals together, take turns sharing the stories behind your recipes.
Tip 2: Mindful Tea Rituals
(Sunday’s tip: Clear Your Mind with Morning Mental Decluttering)
The main purpose of a tea ceremony is to enjoy each other’s company in an atmosphere distinct from the fast pace of everyday life. We have focused on preparing matcha tea in the Japanese style as this zen-inspired method encourages mindfulness and connection.
What you’ll need:
Matcha Tea Set – This is a quality, popular matcha tea set for true matcha lovers.
Organic Matcha Green Tea – This is a popular organic matcha green tea powder.
Wagashi - Japanese sweet or some other sweet treat.
How to perform the ritual:
Choose a serene, calming area in your home or garden for the ceremony.
You may like to play some peaceful music.
Serve a sweet to guests (wagashi) before making the tea.
Prepare the tea in one large tea bowl in front of your guests. See how to prepare matcha tea here: How to Make Traditional Matcha.
Once prepared, pour the tea into cups for your guests to drink.
Soak up the atmosphere and enjoy each other’s company.
For a deeper dive into the meditative aspects of tea, ‘The Book of Tea’ by Kakuzō Okakura offers beautiful insights into the Zen philosophies behind tea rituals.
Something Interesting
This week we are re-reading ‘Siddhartha’ by Hermann Hesse. This beautiful novel follows a young man's journey towards enlightenment. It's a wonderful reminder that our path to wisdom is often winding and that every experience contributes to our growth. As we navigate our own journeys of self-discovery, Siddhartha's story can offer comfort and inspiration.
Thanks for reading!
With gratitude,
