Midweek Motivation

Tip 1: Take Small Steps Outside Your Comfort Zone

We often stick to what feels familiar and safe. But personal growth happens when we gently push our boundaries. Small, daily actions that challenge our usual behavior can lead to meaningful changes over time.

Start with these simple steps:

  • Choose one aspect of yourself you'd like to develop (like being more outgoing)

  • Pick one tiny action that moves you in that direction (like saying "Good morning," to a neighbor)

  • Do this small action for a week

  • Next week, try something slightly more challenging

Check out Atomic Habits* by James Clear for more ideas on tiny changes that lead to big results.

Tip 2: Let Silence Do the Work

Silence can be powerful - it gives others space to think and share more deeply. When we resist the urge to jump in, we often hear the most interesting thoughts.

Practice these simple techniques:

  • Count to 5 in your head after asking a question

  • Watch the speaker's face instead of planning what to say next

  • Notice how much more others share when given time

Something Interesting

“We think we listen, but very rarely do we listen with real understanding, true empathy. Yet listening, of this very special kind, is one of the most potent forces for change that I know. - Carl Rogers

These words from Carl Rogers remind us that hearing isn't the same as listening. Rogers believed that real listening - the kind where we truly try to understand someone else's world - can transform relationships.

That’s why, this week, we’re diving into one of Roger’s books - On Becoming a Person* - to see what we can learn about listening from one of the most influential psychologists of the past century.

Thanks for reading!

With gratitude,
