2 Tips
1) Take a Gentle Look at Your Life: A Simple Self-Review
Why It’s Important:
Starting each day with clarity and purpose makes a huge difference in how we feel. Taking time to review different parts of your life - like health, relationships, and work - helps you understand where you are and where you want to go. This kind of self-reflection pairs beautifully with our mindfulness practice.
Here's a simple way to review your life:
Create Your Space:
Find a quiet, cozy spot where you won't be interrupted.
Grab a notebook and pen (or, if you prefer digital, use an app like Day One).
Make yourself comfortable - maybe with a warm cup of tea.
Ensure you give yourself the time and space that this exercise deserves.
Look at These Key Areas:
Physical Health: How's your energy? Sleep? Eating habits?
Mental Well-being: What brings you peace? What causes stress?
Relationships: Do your connections with others feel nurturing?
Work: Does your work align with what matters to you?
Personal Growth: What activities light you up and help you learn?
Money: Are you feeling secure with your finances?
Home: Does your space support the life you want?
Next Steps: After looking at each of the above areas of your life, you may end up with a long list, so these next steps are important to ensure you don’t get overwhelmed:
Notice what's working well - celebrate these areas! Don’t skip straight to where you want to improve. Go out and treat yourself, taking a moment to feel proud of where you are.
Then, choose 1-2 areas you'd like to focus on first.
Set small, doable goals. We talk about this a lot because it is so important. Make sure the goals are achievable. You may like to refer to this tip from one of our earlier emails: Practicing self-discipline (tapas) when setting and working towards our goals.
Review your progress monthly and adjust as needed.
This isn't about making huge changes all at once. You’re taking small steps toward a more mindful, fulfilling life. Like tending a garden, positive changes need time and gentle care to grow.
2) Create Healthy Boundaries for a More Peaceful Life
Why It’s Important:
We all know that feeling - trying to squeeze just one more task into our day, checking work emails late at night, or saying, "Yes," when we really need to say "No." Setting boundaries helps protect your time and energy. Without them, important stuff - like relaxation, family time, and simple joys - often gets pushed aside.
Here are 3 simple steps to create and maintain healthy boundaries:
Notice What Drains You
Pay attention to activities that leave you feeling overwhelmed
Look for patterns in your day that create stress
Think about times when you wish you'd said "No"
Set Clear Limits
Choose specific cut-off times for work-related tasks
Decide which hours are just for you and your family
Pick one or two boundaries to start with - don't try to change everything at once
Share Your Boundaries
Let others know about your new limits in a friendly, clear way
Use “I” statements. Try saying something like: "I'm stepping away from work emails after 7 PM to spend time with family"
Remember: it's okay to protect your personal time
Setting boundaries isn't about building walls - it's about creating space for what matters most in your life. Start small, be consistent, and watch how these simple changes can transform your daily experience.
