Designing Your Life and Communicating Clear Boundaries

Designing Your Life and Communicating Clear Boundaries

Hello and welcome to MindfulMornings midweek motivation - the complement to Sunday’s newsletter: Find Your Joy by Mapping Your Journey and Guarding Your Energy

Where to Find the Best Deals on Hoka Shoes

Meaning “to fly” in Maori, Hoka was founded in 2009 so that anyone spending long hours on their feet could get the ultimate experience with optimum cushioning and stability. Less than 15 years after its founding, Hoka is bringing in revenues topping a billion dollars a year, so it’s clear that people are loving this brand. But with quality comes high prices, and Hoka is no doubt in the high end price-wise. Thanks to Brad's Deals, we found the best prices on Hoka.

Midweek Motivation

For deeper insights and further guidance on completing your self-review, consider reading Designing Your Life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans. Below is a short synopsis:

“In this book, Bill Burnett and Dave Evans show us how design thinking can help us create a life that is both meaningful and fulfilling, regardless of who or where we are, what we do or have done for a living, or how young or old we are. The same design thinking responsible for amazing technology, products, and spaces can be used to design and build your career and your life, a life of fulfillment and joy, constantly creative and productive, one that always holds the possibility of surprise.”

Tip 2: Create Your Personal Boundary Scripts

Many of us find it challenging to set boundaries, especially with family and friends. Having ready-to-use scripts can make this easier.

Try these gentle but clear examples:

  • When needing personal space: “I'm running low on energy at the moment. I'd love to schedule quality time with you next [specific day] when I can be more present."

  • When asked to take on more work: "I want to give this project the attention it deserves, but I'm at full capacity with [current project].”

  • When facing pressure to change your mind: "I appreciate you sharing your perspective. I've given this careful thought, and, while our approaches differ, I'm going to continue with my decision.”

  • When setting clear limits: "Sorry, that crosses a boundary for me. I know this might not have been your intention, but it doesn’t work for me. I'm happy to [specific alternative] instead."

  • When wanting to check on current commitments: "I need to check my calendar before giving you a definite answer. I'll get back to you tomorrow.”

Tip: Write your favorite responses on sticky notes or on your phone. Practice saying them aloud until they feel natural.

Something Interesting

This week we discovered a wonderful resource - 100 Tips for a Better Life by Conor Barnes.

It's a thoughtful collection of practical wisdom that we think you might enjoy.
