2 Tips
1) Focus on What You Can Control
Why It’s Important:
We often feel overwhelmed by things outside our control. But here's a simple truth: you can choose where you put your focus and energy. Directing your energy toward things you can manage helps reduce anxiety and builds a stable foundation for growth and happiness. It's like planting seeds in your own garden – you can't control the weather, but you can pull the weeds, water the plants, protect them from bugs, and nurture what you've planted.
Here are some steps to help you focus on what you can control:
Identify controllable elements when journalling each morning. Try listing 3 to 5 things within your control that day. This starts your day by bringing your attention to areas you can influence. Examples of controllable elements include your morning activities, how you respond to situations, or even simple tasks like tidying your space.
Set achievable goals for your day. Aim for 1-3 simple goals which you know you can achieve, like reading a chapter of a book or taking a ten minute walk.
Before bed, take a moment to think about your day. What went well? What could you have managed differently? This draws your attention to what you can influence going forward.
If something happened in your day that was outside of your control, acknowledge it, accept that it has happened, and move your focus back to what you can do tomorrow.
A morning routine is a great place to find some control. Most of us can choose to get up early and do what we want in the peaceful morning hours. If you’re looking for inspiration we have morning routines you can follow at mindfulmornings.club which include free downloadable checklists to help you implement the routine.
If you want to dive deeper:
This guided meditation, The Power of Yes, discusses accepting what is outside of our control, another important aspect of shifting one's focus to the present.
Atomic Habits* by James Clear is a great book for turning your focus to small, positive changes you can make to lead a healthier, happier life.
Remember, it's not about controlling everything – it's about making the most of what you can influence. This approach can bring more calm to your mornings and help you focus on what truly matters throughout your day.
2) Embrace Healthy Comforts: Nurturing Your Well-being
Why:
We all seek comfort in our lives, but sometimes we turn to habits that don't serve us well. Instead of reaching for junk food or endlessly scrolling social media, let's explore healthier ways to find comfort that align with our MindfulMornings philosophy.
Healthy comfort items can boost your mood, reduce stress, and improve your overall well-being. They help you face life's challenges with more resilience and grace.
Here are some steps to incorporate healthy comfort into your life:
Acknowledge and identify the comforts that don't serve you. Take note of when you tend to reach for these most.
Once you know when you tend to reach for these comforts start to explore options to replace them:
Reading in a cozy spot instead of scrolling social media
Warm baths instead of lounging in front of the TV
Healthy treats such as dark chocolate or bliss balls instead of candy or ice cream
Create a ritual: Make these healthy activities part of your daily or weekly routine to reduce the likelihood of leaning back into old habits. Consistency turns comforting activities into cherished habits.
By choosing healthy comfort items, you're not just soothing yourself in the moment – you're building a more resilient, centered you. Small changes can make a big difference.
1 Question
In what ways can you reframe uncertainty as an opportunity for growth, learning, and new experiences?
How we frame things in our mind is very important and has a huge effect on how we feel. For example imagine trying a new hobby, like painting, even though you’ve never done it before. You could focus on the uncertainty of whether you'll be any good at it or you could focus on how it opens the door to creativity and self-expression. You might discover hidden talents, learn something new about yourself, or simply find joy in the process.
